CANEUS announces new Concept Topics

CANEUS is excited to announce eleven new concept topics to be developed at the CANEUS 2008 Conference! CANEUS will issue an official Call for Papers in early February, with a submission period of roughly three months. The Board of Directors will then evaluate papers and 15 will be selected for development at the CANEUS 2008 Conference. These will be developed alongside the seven existing pilot projects. Dr. Bill Atwell of Boeing presented to the CANEUS Board of Directors at the 2007 Annual General Meeting. Dr. Atwell had undertaken an exhaustive analysis of promising MNT in an effort to identify potential projects to be developed in advance of the CANEUS 2008 Conference. His analysis incorporated input from every major stakeholder in each project, identified end-user needs, application areas, and where these projects would fit in to these niches. From this extensive list, the CANEUS Board highlighted the eleven topics that show promise for development. We are waiting for colleagues from Brazil and Asia to add 2-3 of their own projects to this list, and are greatly looking forward to moving forward with these new potential projects.

The eleven new concepts are:

  • Nano Composites for Aerospace
  • Molecular / Nano Electronics for Harsh Environments
  • Nano Metrology for Aerospace
  • Nano Photonics / Opto-electronics
  • Nano Materials (excluding composites) Coatings
  • Nano-Micro-Macro Integration
  • Micro-Nano-Enabled Smart Systems
  • Micro / Nano Robotics for Space Application
  • Energetic Materials
  • Sensors Network
  • Nano Sensors (physical and chemical)
