Embraer Chief Scientist Dr. Hugo Borelli Resende to Co-Chair the Technical Committee for CANEUS 2008 in Brazil
Hugo Borelli

The International CANEUS organization is pleased to welcome Dr. Hugo Borelli Resende as a Co-Chair the Technical Committee for the CANEUS 2008 Conference to be held on November 9-14, 2008, in the city of São José dos Campos, home of Embrear in Brazil’s thriving hub of Aerospace and Defense activities.

CANEUS 2008 is the world's foremost international conference devoted to Micro-Nano-technology (MNT) development for aerospace applications. The CANEUS 2008 conference continues to build on the theme developed during previous, successful CANEUS conferences namely, the challenge of rapidly and efficiently transitioning aerospace MNT development from a mostly low technology-readiness-level (TRL) stage to system-level implementations.

Dr. Resende’s Important Role in CANEUS 2008

As Chief Scientist of Embraer, Dr. Hugo Resende’s main responsibility is to coordinate the efforts to establish cooperative technology projects with universities, research institutes and other companies. These efforts also include interacting with governmental funding agencies.

In 2002, Dr. Resende was elected to the Board of Brazil’s ANPEI (National Association for R,D&E of Innovative Companies) and was elected as their President in 2006. He represents ANPEI in the Consulting Board of FINEP. He was the Aerospace Committee Chairman of the SAE Brasil Congress in the years of 2003 and 2004, and worked in the Technical Committee of the event between 1999 and 2003.

During CANEUS 2004, Dr. Resende served on the CANEUS “End-User’s Committee” composed of Boeing, Airbus, Embrear, LMCO, NASA, USAF, and others.

CANEUS’ unique approach to transitioning emerging micro- and nano-technologies from the proof-of-concept stage through to system-level implementation in aerospace applications arose from the realization that no one organization had the wherewithal to pursue the entire technology development path from concepts to systems by itself. Therefore, the cornerstone of the CANEUS strategy is to facilitate international partnerships by including all of the primary stakeholders involved in the technology transition process. Key stakeholders include the innovators, system developers, programmatic sponsors, and in several cases, governmental policy makers, working to minimize, or even eliminate, the traditional barriers to such international partnerships aimed at developing new aerospace products.

By hosting the CANEUS 2008 Conference in Brazil, the International CANEUS Organization has also made a long-term commitment to establish a CANEUS Regional Secretariat in Brazil. Both CANEUS and the Brazilian organizations will work together to strengthen these links with the ultimate goal of facilitating both technology exchanges and collaborative MNT-based pilot projects involving strong participation by both Brazilian industry and research institutions.

About CANEUS: CANEUS is a worldwide organization serving the needs of the aeronautics, space and defense communities by fostering the coordinated, international development of MNT (Micro-Nano- Technologies) for aerospace applications. As a "hands on" organization, CANEUS is focused on the practical aspects of transitioning MNT rapidly and efficiently from the concept to the aerospace system level. In achieving this goal, CANEUS brings together technology developers, aerospace end-users, governmental policy makers and investors from across the world. www.caneus.org
