Special Publication Supplement on "Integration of Micro-Nano-Technologies into Aerospace Systems: Needs and Lessons Learned by the Aeronautics, Space and Defense Industries"

Montreal, May 18, 2007 -- The CANEUS Organization is proposing the creation of a special supplement in the Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine focused on “Integration of Micro-Nano-Technologies (MNT) into Aerospace Systems: Needs and Lessons Learned by the Aeronautics, Space and Defense Industries" in partnership with the AV&ST.

MNT-based systems promise what aerospace applications are looking for, namely, ultra-low mass, size, and power consumption.

This special publication will include both contributed and invited articles, addressing key issues for end-to-end development of MNT-based aerospace systems. In particular, articles are solicited that deal with “lessons learned” in using MNT for aeronautics, unmanned space (civilian and defense), and human space exploration applications. CANEUS is interested in disseminating the potential pitfalls to be avoided, in the MNT insertion and implementation process. The special supplement will cover the following areas:

  • Maturation issues facing MNT-based materials and devices (sensors and actuators) in order to meet the challenging requirements of next generation (a) manned and unmanned spacecraft for earth orbiting and planetary missions, (b) civilian and military aircraft, (c) military space missions, as well as (d) issues related to reliability testing and characterization.
  • An overview of the priorities in the development and funding of new MNT based aerospace systems leading to manufacturable products. The articles will discuss how the aerospace community can influence future MNT investment by government agencies and private capital. Many technology/system developments in the aerospace sector involve international collaborations. Articles are solicited from policy-makers discussing pertinent issues related to the implementation of workable international collaborations and how current national and international policy agreements can be formulated or adapted to facilitate such collaborations.

About CANEUS:
CANEUS is an international non-profit organization focused primarily on transitioning Micro-Nano-Technologies into aerospace applications in a rapid and cost-effective manner. CANEUS brings together MNT developers, aerospace end-users, governmental policy makers and investors from across the world. CANEUS provides a platform for coordinated investment and collaborative development of aerospace MNT by identifying and nurturing complementary core competencies.
