Sessions Guideline

The CANEUS 2006 Conference sessions occur on the first three days of the week (Monday - Wednesday). There are 22 technical sessions addressing key questions in three broad topical areas: Technology Overview, Technology Applications, and Programmatic Issues. These topical areas span the range of issues to be considered for constructing the proposed technology development “pipeline.”

The conference sessions provide the background material for later discussions at the Process Workshops. The Process Workshops are aimed at refining pre-selected micro-nano-technology (MNT) Concept Papers into “blueprints” for Pilot Project development. By bringing the conference participants up-to-date on the key issues associated with Aerospace MNT development, it is our hope that they will make informed decisions at the subsequent Process Workshop sessions.

Speakers Presentation

Each invited speaker at CANEUS 2006 is a world leader in his or her respective topical area. Each speaker will describe the work done by his or her home organization in the context of worldwide developments. We request that the talks be developed along the following lines:

  1. Highlight the topical area issues to be considered for the ultimate technology development pipeline. For example, if your session addresses low technology-readiness-level (TRL) materials, talk about some of the key issues affecting materials development at that stage.
  2. Describe solutions attempted within the speaker’s home organization to address these issues.
  3. Concept Paper feedback: Each speaker will provide comments or suggested solutions on pertinent issues raised during the preparation of the Concept Papers.

Session Format

  1. Each session will have 90 minutes and will consist of one lead speaker and three Invited speakers.
  2. The lead speaker will have a little more time to talk (approx. 30 minutes) and will provide the broader overview for the session topic.
  3. The other three speakers (approx. 20 minutes each) will represent for each of the three regions (U.S., Europe, Asia) applying their knowledge from their respective organizations, but being careful to provide the perspective from their region, not only their own work or their organization.

Session Co-Chairs

As experts in their respective fields, Session Chairs are extremely important figures in the overall planning and success of the conference sessions. It is the Session Chairs who will

  1. Foster an organized relationship between the speakers and guarantee the full development of the sessions.
  2. Undertake efforts in leading coordination between speakers, ensuring presentations are within the scope of the session, and providing for the overall success of the session.
